Assassin's Creed Liberation gets an HD make-over

If you love Assassin's Creed so much that you're already looking ahead to 2014, after you've completed the upcoming Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, and wondering how you'll cope, then Ubisoft has some good news for you.

Assassin's Creed: Liberation, the Vita exclusive released last year, is getting the HD remake treatment and will be coming to PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC early next year. This new version of the game has been completely overhauled to not only make it look the business on a big telly, but also to ensure that the gameplay has been rebalanced to suit the larger consoles.

The game, which was no visual slouch on the Vita, has been given even more polish so that it can sit alongside the other Assassin's Creed titles, with facial animations, AI and audio all reworked to a higher standard.

The original's touchscreen puzzles have been removed for obvious reasons, but have been replaced with a generous 15 new missions. Apparently some of the existing missions have been tweaked as well, to improve the free-running routes and general gameplay balance.

Liberation is notable not only for bringing the core Assassin's Creed gameplay to a handheld, but for being the first in the series to have a female main character. Aveline de Grandpré is of French-African descent, and battles to protect the people of New Orleans in the late 18th Century.

Assassin's Creed: Liberation HD is “coming soon” according to Ubisoft.
